Branding Your Show

The following walks you through the various elements you need to brand your show effectively.

This section also opens up discussion on how to emote feelings from your listeners.

Select Your Music

Our music experts will help you pick your music based on your goal for your podcast and the sound of your voice. This process will begin after you have submitted your intro & outro audio to us.

If you’d like to give us an idea of the feel you’re going for, you have access to all the license-free music on these sites - audioblocks.com and premiumbeat.com .

When it comes to using license-free music you always risk others hearing ‘your’ music on other podcasts, tv commercials etc. If you’d like to have our music production team write something just for you, let us know in Slack.

Not sure how to choose your music?
Ask yourself what state you want your listeners to be in.
In his book ‘How To Be Heard’, Julian Treasure writes about speaking INTO ‘a listening’.

How can you use music to help stimulate the listening position?
This is also hugely valuable when you’re working on your spoken content, be it ‘solo’ or conversation.

Here’s more details about listening positions outlined in Julian’s book. We can speak together about this in more detail if you would like as well.

Active to Passive

• Active - widely used in therapeutic professions, education and journalism
• Passive - A position we adopt when we are in a relaxed state.

Critical to Empathic

• Critical - It’s our primary listening position in business, debate.
• Empathic - The opposite to ‘critical’. A tough one to implement in the branding stage but a very useful one you can adopt during interviews and conversations. The four positionas as listed by leading researcher on interpersonal communication, Professor Marisue Pickering (University of Maine) are:
1. Desire to be directed, without projecting your own feelings or ideas.
2. Desire to be non-defensive.
3. Desire to imagine the roles / perspectives / experiences.
4. Desire to listen as a receiver and not as a critic.

Your Artwork

With a growing number of shows, how your show looks on the podcast apps is increasingly important. The podcast artwork needs to pull focus from a smartphone, so it should only convey the most basic of information.

The name of the podcast is essential. And depending on your positioning, you may add the name of the host(s).

If you have provided us with your brand bible guidelines (mainly fonts and color hex codes), we’ll create your overall podcast show artwork from that information at no extra charge.

Please drop your guidelines, host photos and any other company brand assets it into your slack channel so we remain brand consistent with the artwork.

Note that we do not create episode specific artwork, however, we will provide you with all the artwork layers so you can create your own. If you have questions about this, please see the Social Media Systems section.
